A Special Sunday
This coming Sunday we have two special guests leading worship. The Rev. Dr. Jason Micheli will be in the pulpit. I have been working with Jason on Presbytery business over the past year or so and have come to appreciate his intelligence, calm presence, and quiet humor. Personally, I find Jason’s preaching insightful and full of wisdom and I hope you will too.
The other special guest worship leader is someone you all know well—Lila Woodard. Lila will be doing everything from the welcome announcements to the prayers of the people. She designed the liturgy and will be playing the role that I normally play every Sunday. It is unusual to enlist a high school senior to take on this responsibility, but Lila is no ordinary high schooler. As most of us know, Lila has a lot of experience with public speaking and leadership. She serves as an elder at St. Andrew’s and she was elected to represent Santa Barbara Presbytery as the Young Adult Delegate to the General Assembly this summer in Salt Lake City. It has been such an inspiration to watch Lila pursue leadership positions in the church over the past two years. She is clearly feeling a call to serve. Lila is a bright hope for the future of the church!
As for me, I am taking a Sunday off to be with my family. Ten of them are arriving this week in Santa Barbara—a much needed family reunion. We are hosting a Thanksgiving dinner here at the church on Thursday and all are welcome! Dinner is at 3:00 pm and dessert at 5:00 pm. Come to one or both courses. Bring a dish to share or not (there will be plenty of food).
Finally, I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving. I pray that your gatherings are joyful and that the peace of Christ reigns at your table!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jen
