On the surface things have been relatively quiet around the church. The office has had very little traffic, the calendar of events has been sparse, and most committees have taken a month off. But underneath the calm surface, significant work is being done. Here is a snapshot of just some of the events being planned for the fall.
Growing Together in Faith at Pacific Pride: Saturday, August 26th, 10:30-7:30 at Chase Palm Park. St. Andrew’s is hosting a booth at the Pacific Pride Festival. This is a way of inviting visitors to our church and affirming our love for our LGBTQ+ friends. There is a gardening theme which I love almost as much as I loved wearing a pancake hat for the Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast.
Choir Kickoff Dinner, Wednesday, August 30th at 6:00 pm in the Vos Room. Last year was just a warm up. This year promises some beautiful pieces and the integration of the choir into the communion service.
Special Guest Preacher, Rev. Dr. Jason Micheli, General Presbyter, Sunday, September 3. Jason Micheli returns with a message about the intersection of faith and finance.
Adult Education Sunday Kick Off with Bible 201 led by Pastor Jen, September 10th at 11:00 am. This class will explore the origins of the Bible, the genres that make it up, how language issues affect translations, and more.
“Seeing God in You, Me, Hummingbirds and Marigolds,” a workshop with Rev. Al Gephart, Saturday, September 30th from 10:00-3:00. The workshop will explore the re-formation of the Christian faith during a time of shifting paradigms, including climate change. The afternoon includes hymn singing, prayers by John Philip Newell, and poetry by Mary Oliver.
Santa Barbara Music Club Concert Series kick off, Saturday, October 7th. Natasha Kislenko and violinist Chavdar Parashkevov will open up the SB Music Club’s concert season here at St. Andrew’s.
Blessing of the Animals worship service, Sunday, October 8 at 3:00 pm on the lawn. This will be a chance to bring our best friends to church and confirm God’s blessing upon them.
This fall promises to be a busy one here at church with lots of events that you can share with your neighbors, family members and friends. I am looking forward to all of these opportunities to learn and grow in our faith together!
Blessings,
Pastor Jen
