Getting Back into the Swing of Things
This Sunday promises to be a busy day in church. The first Sunday after Labor Day has been known as Rally Day for as long as I can remember. People are back from summer vacations, committees are active again and programs start back up in earnest. I love Rally Day—it holds all of the promise and excitement of a new beginning.
We are experiencing a lot of new beginnings here at St. Andrew’s. The choir is now rehearsing for a new year and the Adult Education committee is preparing for another Saturday event on October 5th (what we have tentatively titled the Living Theology Series). The Membership Committee is introducing a new fall dinner event titled “Bread and Benevolence” on November 17th as well as a new small group dinner event in January. The Rev. Janet Ewart is leading a Thursday morning meditation group starting next week and Rev. Suzanne Mally will be starting a new Taize service in December. Personally, I am very grateful for all those who are bringing their talents to church—the energy is contagious.
What has stimulated all these new events? If you asked me I would say behind it all is the Five Year Strategic Plan. In order to develop this plan, each committee was asked to dream up a positive future. The ideas were impressive (I look forward to publishing the results this fall). But more than that, the act of dreaming of a future was a creative enterprise for many. It freed people up to think of what was possible. The more we focus on what is possible, the smaller the obstacles in our way become.
I am very excited about what God has in store for our little community on the corner of Auhay and Arroyo, and, most of all, I am grateful to be discovering it alongside all of you!
Blessings,
Pastor Jen
