St. Andrew’s Update–March 5, 2025

Report from your Adult Education Committee

Hello Friends,

My name is Maggie McMillan. I have been attending St. Andrews just over four years, first online during the transition from Pastor Steve to Pastor Jen, and then starting in person in 2021. Just the past year I made the commitment to join as a member of the church and to join Session. I have been given charge of the Adult Education committee. The current committee members are Tom and Diane Weisenburger, Suzanne Malloy, Linda Sizer, Don and Sara Vickers, Judith Muller and Pastor Jen.

On most weeks during the traditional September to June school year, we present video series and live speakers covering a broad range of topics, with the intent of creating a space for thoughtful discussion and sharing of opinions and ideas. We currently are doing a series called “Beyond Belief,” which could be summed up as the best of Marcus Borg.

Later this month and into April, we have a trio of speakers that we want you to know about. First our own Rev. Suzanne Malloy will be presenting a class on “Resiliency” on March 23^rd. This will be followed the next week, March 30^th, by Kelsey Bardfield from Planet Protectors, with the topic title “From Wishcycling to Recycling.” Then on April 6^th we will host Kathi King of the CEC to discuss “Fast Fashion,” exploring the Lenten theme for this year.

We meet in the Window Room at 11 a.m. after the worship service, and hope you will come join us some Sunday!

Adult Education This Sunday

Adult Education will continue viewing and discussing the video series entitled “Beyond Belief with Marcus Borg.” This is a retrospective containing favorite moments, core teachings, and new material of Marcus Borg plus commentary from Rev. Marianne Borg. The fourth session is titled “Reading the Bible.” The Bible “is a book that has a surplus of meaning – meaning that goes beyond what the ancient author or the ancient community intended.” – Marcus Borg.

St. Andrew’s is now collecting plastics that cannot be recycled at home. Bring in your plastic film labeled #2 or #4 and turn them into residential flooring. To learn more about Planet Protectors, click here. Here are examples of what we can take:
