If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there?
The first time I was involved in developing a mission and goals, was many years ago. I was young, passionate about my work, and thought I knew it all.
Although the meeting was scheduled to last hours and included representatives from all of the different departments, I couldn’t imagine it would take long. We were all hard workers and I was sure we could put something together very quickly. How hard could it be?
I quickly learned that while I had a good idea of what I was doing over the next 6 months, I didn’t know the big picture. I didn’t know where I was going. And, just as importantly, I didn’t know where the rest of the group was going. I learned two important lessons – I didn’t know much at all and it takes a community.
There began a process where we all worked together to articulate a mission – our destination, the place we were going. From there, over many more meetings, we started working on goals for how we would get there. As a wise person once said, a goal without a plan is just a wish.
St. Andrew’s has finished the hard work of writing out a vision for the future, articulating our mission – what we are doing to get there. And now all of the various committees are working on goals, the plan to get us there. And that’s what our upcoming Church Dinner is about.
Getting our community together, enjoying each other’s company, and learning from each of the committees the goal, or goals, that they are working on for the plan – the 5 year strategic plan to make our goals more than just wishes. We will learn from each other, share with each other, ask questions, and be reminded of how God’s love and joy abound.
You will not want to miss this time together! On Sunday, June 23rd at 5:00pm, we’ll begin with a barbeque dinner and fellowship and then hear from the various committees with time reserved for questions. If you haven’t already, please RSVP to the office (call 805-967-6327 or email by clicking on the button below) so that we know how much food to make.
