Sunday Worship Service

Dear St. Andrew's Community and Beyond:

Have you ever had the sense that no matter how old you are, your "inner self" is the same as it's always been?  The message this week is inspired by 2 Corinthians 4:16 and a comment my late father made to me that I've thought about many times.  The title is "Claiming the Gift of Our Inner Natures."

Sandy Thoits is the liturgist.

My canine friend and I reflect on his habit of always looking for peoples' "inner nature" rather than their outer appearance.

Chris and Erin lead us in three hymns: "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," "Though I May Speak," (with the beautiful line, "Come Spirit come, our souls inspire...") and the West Indian setting of the Lord's Prayer.  We also have a chance to hear Chris' piano music.

As always, there will be Zoom coffee hour and adult study; details below.

As we live through this increasingly complex pandemic, it is important to remember the gracious mystery of who we are.

Steve

Adult Education...

Sunday, July 12, 11:00 am:  A virtual ADULT EDUCATION

Uppity Women of the Bible

"Uppity Women of the Bible" presents scholarship, humor and fresh insights on some of the most colorful women from the Bible.

Uppity Women of the Bible is a four volume DVD-based series from Living the Questions featuring Hebrew Bible professor Dr. Lisa Wolfe. This lively commentary encompasses four major books focusing on women in the Hebrew Bible and Apocrypha. Each section in the volume addresses the biblical text in detail and draws connections from the world of ancient audiences to that of present-day readers. Wolfe's research is motivated by the usual inquiries of biblical scholarship, as well as the questions raised by the many church Bible study groups she has taught. Combining careful scholarship with humor and fresh insights, Dr. Wolfe presents the opportunity for lively and thoughtful discussions of Ruth, The Song of Songs, Judith and Esther. The Syllabus for the first volume, Ruth, is here.

The Adult Education Committee will begin this series on July 12, 2020. Please join us on Zoom at 11 AM on Sundays!
