Sunday Worship Service

Dear St. Andrew's Community and Beyond:

We are in an unprecedented pandemic, which has quickly become a backdrop to an intense upheaval in unrest, demonstrations and debate about the tragic realities of race in our society. As I went through the last week, I felt drawn to the act of kneeling and all it can mean. That led me in turn to think of what follows kneeling: standing. So the message for this week is "A Time to Kneel and A Time to Stand."

Judith Muller is the reader and will be sharing the celebration of communion with me. As before, we encourage you to bring your own bread and cup to the viewing of the service so you can participate with us.

Chris will offer another prelude, and Erin will join him to lead us in "How Majestic Is Your Name," "Thy Word" and "Amazing Grace."

I will share with you and Disciple Dog some of the things he does that impress me as we go about our lives in our neighborhood.

The art is a combination of drawings and news photos.

I hope the service will give us some clarity about where we are and how we can respond as we seek healing, justice and wisdom for our country and our world.

Steve

Adult Education...

Sunday, June 7  10:30 am - 11:00 am:  A virtual ADULT EDUCATION

As we all know, since the death of George Floyd our country is going through a time of grief, shock, anger, upheaval, civil unrest, and soul-searching centering on the on-going legacy of racism.  This past Sunday our adult education class centered on a discussion of what this means to us as Americans and as a community of faith.  By the end of the session, the group agreed to spend the next four Sundays studying the book “Waking up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race" by Debbie Irving. Our denomination has used this book widely in recent years. Several of our participants Sunday highly recommended it.  We will be using a study guide written by the 2017 Co-Moderators of the Presbyterian church, the Reverends Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston.  The book is available to order at Chaucer’s, taking 1-5 days to ship to store for pickup. It’s also available from Amazon and electronically from Apple's iBooks Store and on Kindle.  The Study Guide can be found by clicking on this study guide link.  Knowing that everyone may not have the book yet, we will begin the class with some videos to introduce to the issues in the book.

We encourage you to join us In the Zoom Room at 11:00 AM on Sunday June 7, 2020.
